Transition & Careers Programme (Tutorial)
Our curriculum includes Transition and Careers lessons, delivered once a fortnight by Heads of Year. These lessons support students in the transition from Year 11 into Year 12, with an initial focus on developing an A-Level mindset for success. Lessons then go on to explore various post-18 options. Students have the chance to explore all pathways open to them. Lessons also cover CV writing, letters of application and apprenticeships, finding and securing good quality work experience, applying to university and managing finances. We also provide opportunities for 1:1 support to equip students for life beyond our Sixth Form.
Students progress to a variety of post-18 pathways. The majority successfully apply to university for a wide variety of courses; with around 15% applying for competitive degrees at Oxford, Cambridge, and in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science. We have an Excellence and Ambition Lead, who supports students in applying for and securing these competitive places.
A growing number of students apply for Higher and Degree level apprenticeships benefitting from the opportunity to study for their qualification while gaining valuable on-the-job experience. We provide excellent opportunities to prepare for these pathways. Our Step into Employment Day is just one opportunity where students can meet current apprentices from the workplace and find out about opportunities with employers. These networking events are invaluable: students have gone on to secure apprenticeships as a direct result of such activity.
Every student has at least one independent careers guidance interview while they are in the Sixth Form. This will be a bespoke conversation, responding to the aspirations of each individual. Students are offered subsequent check ins, if required.
