Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)
At Bishop Stopford we offer an additional qualification to select students in Year 12: the EPQ. This course enables academically driven students to pursue a topic of their choosing in depth, extending far beyond their A Level subject studies.
What is the EPQ?
-
A qualification through OCR worth half an A-Level
-
Graded A* - U
-
Worth UCAS points
What you must do:
-
Complete an independent written project of approx. 5000 words
-
Complete accurate & detailed project records – explaining your process, decisions, planning, structure
-
Maintain an accurate & detailed log of your work
-
Deliver an accurate & detailed presentation at the end of the process
Benefits of doing an EPQ:
-
Opportunity to research an area of interest in depth, often on a topic not covered by A Level subjects
-
Development of desirable skills in research, project management, dissertation-writing and organisation/presentation of findings
-
Considered favourably by universities, both through UCAS points (can result in a more advantageous offer) and as a super-curricular strength
How is the EPQ delivered at Bishop Stopford Sixth Form?
Applications for the EPQ cohort open in September, following a launch session. In order to apply, students must complete a proposal form as well as JSTOR’s Research Basics course. Successful applicants will be notified early in October.
