Extra-Curricular Activities

We are very proud of our extra-curricular offer. Through this programme, our students flourish, building on interests they already have and developing new ones too. It really is a great way to unlock unique potential.

Our extensive range of enrichment activities means that most students participate in more than one activity. There are currently over 70 opportunities across the year – and that’s not counting the "one off" competitions and day long experiences such as STEM which we also host. Details can be found in our 'Extra-Curricular Guide' below.

The vast range on offer really does open up almost endless possibilities. Most activities are led by staff, but some groups are managed by students. Our Sixth Form societies, are a great example of this. This in turn develops their leadership capabilities.

Music is at the cultural heart of our school - our track record in this field is amazing! With as much activity taking place outside lessons as in, it is a great opportunity for our students to discover unique talents and begin or continue a life long love of music.

Many students begin or continue to learn an instrument with us. The huge variety of music groups really does nurture the talents our students have. Students learn together across all years, and even with staff in some ensembles such as ukulele choir. Some join choirs, and other ensembles for the very first time, and thoroughly enjoy the camaraderie as well as the wonderful discipline of the world of music. This really is a vibrant community within and beyond our school.

Music lessons are offered in a wide variety of instruments, provided through the Northamptonshire County Music Service.

We also ask students to share their talents with each other, and soloists or ensembles have become a regular part of assemblies.

Competitions beyond school as well as termly concerts and band performances means there is always something which students can join to express their creative talents in music.

One of our aims is that students leave us happy and healthy, and for that reason, sport is high on our agenda. Many students take part in a huge range of sporting opportunities beyond PE lessons. Whether they are at the top of their game or trying out for the first time, all are welcome.

The high class indoor and outdoor facilities cater for clubs for each year group. Practices and training take place at lunchtimes and after school.

Students regularly take part in local, county and national competitions, and have an enviable track record in these. Bishop Stopford School is the only secondary school in Northamptonshire to win the coveted School Games Mark GOLD Award!

The Extra-Curricular Guide outlines the main programme; other opportunities arise throughout the year and are advertised through our general communications.

Because we develop the social and moral learning of our students, the Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a highly popular option.

This is a non-competitive voluntary programme which enables students individually and in teams to develop skills, talents and independence, as well as contributing back to society. Students can achieve at Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.
