Personal Development

Enrichment is at the heart of our Sixth Form community. The enjoyment of participating is evident in all areas. Students develop skills and interests to complement their academic studies. They are also encouraged to suggest new activities to broaden their experiences.

Volunteering

Students complete at least one hour of volunteering per fortnight in school or the wider community. We ask students to consider where they will make the most positive contribution to others.

Volunteering might include supporting younger students, lower school lessons or helping with school events or activities. Some students will complete their enrichment elsewhere. For example, volunteering at their place of worship or in other settings such as Kettering General Hospital, pre-schools, Scouts, Guides or Cadets or other appropriate settings. These build valuable skills such as teamwork, communication and leadership.

Students record their volunteering in an Enrichment Log. This record is extremely valuable for CV building and when applying for jobs, apprenticeships or university.  Being able to demonstrate commitment, initiative and engagement with the community is highly regarded.

Enrichment

As in the rest of school, our approach to education in the Sixth Form is holistic. This means we offer so much more than the taught subjects so that students can engage with "the best which has been thought or said". This includes our "Bishop Lectures" with incredible speakers from the worlds of medical ethics and politics to name just two. Beyond school, we run a significant number of events to provoke wider thinking. Coventry Cathedral, Hampton Court and Bletchley Park are just some of the places we visit. The Arts are incredibly important to us, so visits to Stratford, London and other arts venues are high on our list.

Subject competitions are another way the curriculum, is enriched. We have a great tradition in winning or being finalists in national and international competitions such as "What lights up your love of Physics?", the Commonwealth Essay and Biology and Computing  competitions. We also enjoy great success with Music and Sixth Form students have played at the School Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. Sporting enrichment is also extremely popular, with our under 18 teams reaching regional finals in hockey, rugby and a number of other sports.

Our Sixth Form also encourages online additional learning, visits to universities and encounters with employers to ensure everyone is well prepared for leaving school.

Clubs & Societies

Clubs and societies are a key part of life in the Sixth Form. they provide students with the opportunity to develop interests, build friendships, and contribute to the wider school community.

We have over 25 societies, created and run by students for students. These societies cover a wide range of interests and provide a space for students to share ideas, explore topics they are passionate about, and meet others with similar interests. Being part of a society also gives students the chance to develop valuable skills such as leadership, organisation, and teamwork. The Societies Timetable below shows the current offer.

Leadership

The talent in our Sixth Form is always encouraged through opportunities to lead. As well as clubs and societies, there are many other opportunities to become a leader and - equally importantly - to be trained in leadership skills and attitudes. This includes Chapel leadership, Student leadership, EDI, music groups, Student Council and Student Ambassadors.
