Bishop Stopford offers a comprehensive programme for those students who are considering an application to study medicine.

These include a wide range of interventions, including workshops, talks from alumin, mock MMI interviews with local GPs and one-to-one guidance. Through these measures we aim to ensure the students who go on to apply for medicine have made an informed decision and are able to submit the strongest application possible.

Sixth form students who are considering applying for medicine, dentistry or veterinary science are strongly recommended to start thinking about the preparation process as early as possible. We work hard to ensure students can build their own knowledge about the reality of applying for and studying medicine at university. This enables them to make an informed decision about whether or not it is an appropriate option for them.

In addition, Bishop Stopford also has a vibrant ‘MEDSOC’ Society with is organised by sixth form students themselves. Potential medics support each other through the application process, UCAT examination as well as organising visiting speakers etc..

Our Medics Programme

We are extremely fortunate to benefit from a close working relationship with Dr Willis and other local GPs who help facilitate the Mock MMI (Mini Medicine Interview) Support for our students. This usually involves an after-school session where students are put through several short assessments –‘stations’ – that usually last 10 minutes or less. Before each one, they are presented with a scenario and given a bit of time to prepare an answer. They are either then asked a question by the interviewer or have to engage in a role-play scenario.

Students can find much more information to help them to prepare their application for medicine, dentistry or veterinary science on Firefly: https://bishopstopford.fireflycloud.net/sixth-form/medicine-dentistry-and-veterinary
