Our intent as a School is that both the taught and the wider curriculum are carefully planned to ensure that not only are students’ basic skills secured, but they provide the foundation for future success. The most successful students are those who can study well using a variety of resources, have a clear understanding of how they are progressing, and know how to make effective personal choices about the present and the future. Our Study Skills programme at Key Stage 4, therefore, is designed to complement learning which takes place in individual subjects.

  • Study skills help students as they prepare for examinations, and to succeed in life.
  • Good study skills can increase confidence, competence, and self-esteem and reduce anxiety about assessments and deadlines.
  • Good study skills improves students’ ability to learn and retain knowledge.
  • Students who use effective study skills feel their work and effort is more worthwhile.

The fortnightly KS4 Study Skills programme include both Study Skills and Careers Education and Guidance.

A bespoke Study Skills booklet is used throughout the year to accompany the course. Students are also issued with a ‘How to revise’ guide.

By the end of Year 11, students will have the skills, knowledge, and encouragement they need to study effectively for their GCSE examinations. They will also be prepared to make well-informed post-16 choices and also be more prepared for the workplace.
