“Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility.” Keeping Children Safe in Education 2021.
At Bishop Stopford School, safeguarding is central to supporting the welfare of our students. At all times, we consider what is in the best interests of the child and work together to identify concerns early to prevent them from escalating.
Every member of staff receives regular safeguarding training and has the knowledge, skills and understanding needed to keep students safe. This work is overseen by our Deputy Headteacher, Mrs C Smith, who is our Designated Safeguarding Lead. She works closely with the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, our SENDCo, Mrs J Bates, and the wider pastoral team. We liaise with a range of agencies to promote the welfare and educational outcomes of our students.
As part of our safeguarding approach, we promote our core values of faith, justice, responsibility, truth, compassion and any actions or views that are contrary to these are challenged. We are ever conscious of the new challenges facing young people today and cultivate an environment where students feel able to share their concerns with trusted adults in school.
