A Level Fine Art: Painting & Drawing (Specification: AQA)

The course is designed to build on experiences from KS3/4, developing skills across a variety of media. You are supported and encouraged throughout the course to enable you to grow with confidence and independence as an artist.

Year 12

Induction period: You will undertake a number of activities and workshops to broaden your skills and knowledge across of a variety of art techniques, before deciding upon a personally selected project theme to explore.

Coursework Investigation:
A personally selected theme, through which you will research, investigate and develop ideas, using a variety of media and scale. Critical studies will inform work, with artist ideas and techniques applied. 

Year 13

The best ideas from Year 12 are built upon into Year 13 and with guidance from teaching staff students will refine and select work to put forward for assessment at the end of the course. This should be a personal area of interest and will include:

a) Practical work a visual exploration of your chosen theme.
b) Personal study a 1000-3000 word illustrated dissertation of your own practical work, with references to relevant critical and historical references.

External exam:

Commencing in February students you will start a final project, completed over the course of 8-10 weeks, concluding with in a 15 hour exam (taking place over multiple sessions). Topics are set by the exam board and are designed to build upon the skills developed over the course.
