When can I use the library?
You can use the library every day
We are open from:
How do I Join the library?
Every student and member of staff is a member and can use the library. In September Year 7 students will register during library lessons. Other new students or staff can come to the library and register at any time. See “Fingerprints!” for more information
How many books can I borrow?
For How long can I keep them?
Books are usually issued for 2 weeks. You may renew them if you would like to keep them longer. Some popular 6th form texts maybe subject to a shorter loan period – books are labelled with this information
Can I borrow books over the holidays?
Yes – even over the long summer holidays, but you must remember to return them.
What happens if my book is overdue?
Fines are charged at 2p per school day that they are late. We do not charge for weekends or holidays. Reminders about late books will be sent via your register.
How do I find out what books the library has?
Search the library catalogue, which is available in the library. The Librarian will help you with any enquiries.
New technology has enabled us to banish membership cards in favour of a biometric sensor. Students register one fingerprint on the database (it takes about 15 seconds). The fingerprint is stored in a secure area, as a mathematical code not a retrievable fingerprint. When a student wants to borrow an item from the library their membership details are called up very quickly by placing their finger on the small sensor box.
Any student who is not registered on this new system is welcome to come to the library at break or lunchtime to do so.

Part of our reader development plan is to inspire students to increase their range of reading and take up new literary challenges. We run two reading groups to help with this aim.
Chapter One
This group is for people who like reading OR who want to read more! We meet once a month in the library for a lunch time packed full of author talk, new books, recommended reads, competitions and fun! It is open to all students - just bring a packed lunch and join us. A calendar of events and times is available from the library.

Students are invited to join this reading group which also meets each month. Learning Support staff help the students to take up the challenge of developing reading skills, trying new authors and series of books.
Connexions is an advice service for young people, providing help and information on a wide variety of subjects. The Connexions Information Point (incorporating the Careers Section) is situated in the library.
These resources include:
Resources include books, leaflets, Video, CDs and electronic sources.
For further advice, guidance, information and support students can attend a drop in session run by Tracy Palmer (Connexions Personal Advisor)
Tuesday lunchtime at 12.45pm - 1.15pm

An appointment is not necessary
Monday – Friday 3.35pm – 5.00pm
All students are welcome to use the facilities in the library and the computer room after school any evening except Friday.
The aim is for students to have a quiet place with the right resources to complete their homework. Students can stay for any length of time but must ensure that their parents/guardians know that they are staying at school and they must have a safe way of getting home.
Students are asked to sign the homework register on arrival.
When homework is complete, students are able to read or use the computers.

The Scholastic Book Club, Cover2Cover helps to raise the profile of books and reading especially with years 7 and 8. Twice a term leaflets with bargain books and CDs are given out. If students wish to order they should:
Commission earned from these orders is spent on new books for the library
