Young, Gifted and Talented

We define Gifted and Talented as follows:

Gifted:  “Describes students who have the ability to excel academically in one or more subjects such as English, Maths, Science and Technology.”

Talented:  “Describes students who have the ability to excel in practical skills such as sport, leadership, artistic performance.  These students may well follow a vocational training pathway to accreditation and employment.”

We identify our Gifted and Talented students by using nationally accepted criteria.  Students either score 129 or above standardised points on at least one battery of the Cognitive Abilities Test, taken on entry in Year 7, or they are nominated by Faculties.  Students are not nominated until the end of Year 7 so that staff can fully assess their abilities, and subject nominations are reviewed at the end of each Key Stage.

Students who are identified as Gifted and Talented have the opportunity to participate in enrichment activities, both in school and in collaboration with other Kettering Schools.  They are also able to enrol on the national YG&T portal, enabling them to access a variety of activities, including Summer Schools.
