Library

The school library offers a comprehensive information service for all the members of the school community. We aim to encourage independent learning, give curriculum support, promote literacy and reader development and provide a safe working environment for all.
“My vision of learning for children and young people in the future, has the library, in all its forms, at its heart”

“Oliver”
The library housekeeping is all processed through specialist software called “Oliver”. Students can search the library catalogue from any computer in the school allowing them to view the titles of everything in the library collection.
Membership
All staff and students are members of the library and able to borrow resources. Biometric sensors allow us to use fingerprints to recognise individuals rather than membership cards. This information is converted and stored on the data base as a mathematical code. If anyone would rather have a membership card this can be arranged.
Student Librarians
Student help is vital in running the library. Students volunteer to assist in a variety of ways from producing displays to helping run the library desk. To find out more come to the library!
Year 7 Library Lessons
Year 7 students are timetabled to have a lesson in the library every fortnight throughout their entire first year. Library and study skills are taught, reading for pleasure promoted and time given for students to enjoy all aspects of the library.
Chapter One
This group is for people who like reading OR who want to read more! We meet once a month in the library for a lunch time packed full of author talk, new books, recommended reads, competitions and fun! It is open to all students. A calendar of events and times is available from the library.
Shadowing Carnegie
Every year a group of students take up the challenge to read the books shortlisted for the prestigious children’s book award, The Carnegie Medal. Providing an opportunity to read new authors, enhance their critical skills, meet with students from other schools and enjoy the pleasure of reading.
