ICT

ICT is our favourite subject! We really enjoy learning new skills like producing business documents and PowerPoint presentations. One of our favourite lessons was when we were learning about business presentations and we got to create our own in PowerPoint.  We have already got a distinction in AO1, 2 & 3 and are almost there in AO4. We like that we can track our own progress on the tracking sheet. It means we know exactly what we have done and what we still have to do.

We are looking forward to starting AO5 which contains some harder tasks. Our teacher has really helped us understand some of the more complicated tools and now we can do it all by ourselves!

Rebecca & Charlotte: Year 8

The ICT Faculty recently took the opportunity to review the programme of study in both Key Stage 3 and 4. Instead of teaching separate courses in the two Key Stages, we now commence a Level 2 qualification in Y7. This allows students to gain accreditation for all ICT work that they carry out throughout their time at the school and not just at Key Stage 4

KS3 & 4

All students follow the OCR National qualification. Most are studying for a qualification worth 2 GCSE’s, but there is extension work to allow more able students to achieve 3 or even 4 GCSE’s. The main aims of the course are to:-

  • Develop student's knowledge and understanding of the Information and Communication Technology sector
  • Develop student's skills, knowledge and understanding in contexts that are directly relevant to employment situations, thereby enhancing their employability within the Information and Communication Technology sector

The course is graded at either Pass (worth 2 C’s at GCSE), Merit (an A and a B) or Distinction (an A* and an A)

Key Stage 5

Student follow WJEC ICT to AS or A Level.

AS:

Unit1 - 60% Theory, examined through 2 ½ Hour Exam

Unit 2 - 40% Practical Coursework based on Business Documents and Multimedia presentations.

A2:

Unit1 - 60% Theory, examined through 2 ½ Hour Exam

Unit 2 - 40% Practical Coursework based on producing a relational database.
