Critical thinking will teach you vital skills of critical evaluation and analysis. It is a life skill which can be applied to all subjects and will aid you in expressing yourself clearly and logically in your career. It will be beneficial is presenting essays and coursework clearly, concisely & coherently
Critical Thinking is a relatively new subject at A-level which has increasing status amongst the Universities. Students take part in a variety of activities to develop their reasoning skills and the ability develop subject specific vocabulary (e.g understanding different argument flaws like Ad Hominem and Tu quoque). If you are considering applying to Oxbridge or considering professions such as medicine or Law, you will be expected to take Critical Thinking at AS level.
Unit F501: Introduction to Critical Thinking
- The language of reasoning
- Credibility
Unit F502: Assessing and Developing Argument
- Analysis of argument
- Evaluating arguments
- Developing one's own reasoned arguments
Lessons: You will do 4 hours of critical thinking in the 2-week timetable cycle.
Exam: There are 2 exam papers covering the units on the right
Each exam lasts 1 hour 30 mins-
This includes a multiple-choice section and short-answers as well as the opportunity to formulate your own arguments-
no coursework required!
