“HELPING RAISE MONEY AT BISHOP STOPFORD SCHOOL TOGETHER”
(Past charities we have raised money for: Children in need, Red Nose Day, PoverTEE day, Bungoma and Donna’s Dream House Blackpool)
CR (Charity Raisers) is Bishop Stopford Schools very own student fundraising group. The group started in September 2008 and has a great following from students who want to help raise money for different charities in a fun, exciting way. CR’s main aim is “getting the whole school working together to raise money for charity in new and fun exciting ways.”
Live charity shows
Many of our teachers and students have performed in our lunch time shows in which the ticket sales go strait to the charity. Past shows have included members of staff dressing up as sheep for a sound of music number, dressing up as a monkey playing the drums and more resent a load of dancing clowns. These events are much loved by everyone in the school and are a great way to make money for people who are less fortunate than us.
FOR ONE LUNCH TIME ONLY (raising money for Children in need)
In November 2008 Charity Raisers presented its first live performance on stage. The show saw a mixture of acts from both students and staff over the two days. Lewis Starr won the first ever student show and Mr Holbird won the teacher show. The whole school loved the new way of raising money and could not wait until the next show. Both performances were hosted by Gary L Johnson and THE VOICE. Lights and Sound for this show by James Balmbra. Money raised from this event £1426.89
A LUNCH TIME CABARET (raising money for Comic Relief 2009)
After the successfulness of FOR ONR LUNCH TIME ONLY the Charity Raisers team wanted to keep up the high standards that had now been set. In March 2009 Bishop Stopford School turned into the West End for two days as yet again students and staff mixed over two days to present a musical cabaret. Acts included Miss Cook and Miss Belbin as Danny and Sandy from “Grease”. Miss Cole as the Narrator from “Joseph” and Gary L Johnson as Edna from “Hairspray” Money raised from this event £1761.54
OPEN MIC (raising money for PoverTEE day 2009)
The third LIVE event came in the shape of a “one off” easy going Open Mic show hosted by Gary L Johnson. Students and Teachers showed their artistic skills by entering our design a PoverTee day T-shirt competition. Also at the open mic we had ballet tap dancing, group singing and the much loved Karaoke singing in front of our live student audience. Students also had the chance to win some fair-trade chocolate in our “HOW MANY T-SHIRTS CAN YOU PUT ON IN 1 MINUET.” Students went against the clock and the winner got 11 t-shirts on in the time given. Event assisted by a group of year 12 Geography students. This event raised £1319.50
THE BIG BISHOP CIRCUS (raising money for Children in Need 2009)
The circus came to town in November 2009 to help raise money for children in need. Gogo the clown (Gary L Johnson) and Miss Ringmaster (Blaize Jones) presented the fun filled two day circus with Students performing on the Thursday and Teachers performing on the Friday. We had a mixture of dance acts, a flee circus and even a group of bad clowns who had custard pies. This event was enjoyed by all students who came along and supported the event, and students and staff even said “This is the best charity show by far.” Money raised from this event: £1386.88
We also raised £129.52 for Donna’s Dream House Blackpool and £94.46 for are linked school in Bungoma.
Hope 2010 will see more money being raised like the last couple of years.
Overall
Overall CR has risen over £6,000 in the last year alone through a mixture of competitions, live shows and non-uniform days.
