Community

The privilege of being a Technology College brings extra responsibility for working in the local community. The School has recently taken a number of Technology-based initiatives with several schools in the area. There are also certain ‘Sponsor Governors’ who help to steer the specialist direction of this school.

Working with the community in many ways, students, parents, governors and staff benefit from the wide range of skills and experiences shared. Sports activities, computer classes for the older community members, local business links are just some of the contributions Bishop Stopford makes to the Kettering and surrounding villages.

Building bridges with other agencies in the local community is also important. Innovative work with the local police, work experience and teacher placements in local business, fundraising for local charities and opening the Sports Centre to local people are just a few examples of the way the School currently looks outwards.

Sports Hall Centre

The Sports Hall Centre offers a range of extensive activities and clube to adults and children alike. From trampolining to five-a-side football the centre is exceptional in accommodating a wide range of sports equipment and facilities.

 Stopford Partnership

Our school is distinctive in many ways, not least because of its innovative approaches to teaching and learning, coupled with strong foundations in Christian values. To complement an enviable academic reputation, the school has attracted funding through designated Technology College status. This has enhanced resources for the benefit of all.

The use of teamwork appears as a theme in our work, and our vision is to establish a high quality Professional Learning Community (PLC) at Bishop Stopford. We believe that all staff are potential leaders, able to take the school forward and raise standards. Hierarchical structures are not allowed to form obstacles to real progress.  We have been involved with the National College for School Leadership in this aspect of our work, and how we wish to extend the successful model which already exists in school, focusing on development through collaboration.

As a successful Technology College since 1994, we are used to working collaboratively and

innovatively with partners on an extensive range of projects, forming professional relationships to share expertise.

Within such a context, we wish to build upon our relationships with local businesses to take our Professional Learning Community into another dimension. Currently, we have a range of contacts from business which enhance our curriculum and provide unique opportunities for our students to learn in a vocational context. In partnership, we would like to build further opportunities into our curriculum, not only to develop the students’ learning, but that of our staff too. In return, there are opportunities for local businesses to explore how the School’s resources could be used for training, personal enhancement and further professional development. We would welcome you to develop with us a commitment to “return to learn” in a mutually beneficial relationship.
